The 49th Hull chess congress will be held on the 5th 6th 7th of October 2012. R.P. Ross Open open to all, John Lawson Major under 166, Haworth Computers Intermediate under 141, Edward Starkey Minor under 116. The rates of play will be 42 moves in 1 hour 45 minutes at which point the players clocks will be retarded 15 minutes and the game completed in the remaining time. 1st prize £250; 2nd prize £150; 3rd prize £75; plus grading prizes. The new ECF 2012/13 grades will be used - (old grades will be converted) ungraded players unable to provide a true indication of their playing strength may play only in the open section. players are entitled to request a half point bye in any round before the start of the tournament. Many buses from out of town pass the centre on their way into Hull from Beverley, York, Bridlington, Hornsea and Scarborough.
