Maurice Brown Memorial Rapid Play 2008

 

The Maurice Brown Rapidplay Congress took place at the University of Hull on Sunday, 6th April 2008.

As last year, there was a very poor entry and with only 3 entries for the Open, this tournament was cancelled.

This left the Major, Intermediate and Minor tournaments in place and although these were also poorly supported, the Association paid out the full advertised prize money. Full results for the Congress can be seen by clicking the link below.

The Congress was organised by Secretary, Mark Ieronimo and the three tournaments were controlled by John Lawson and John Bycroft. Your Editor, was controlling his last event after 45 years but hopes to play in future Congresses so brush up on your Colle's and Albins.

Thanks are also due to Dave Mills and other members of HDCA for assistance given throughout the event.

The Committee will have to consider the viability of continuing the event next year and will be interested to hear any suggestions for improvements through the questionnaire available on this site (see page titled HELP).

An encouraging note was that a Junior event was staged alongside the Rapidplay and this was extremely successful. President Mike Butt's efforts were supported by Peter Cloudsdale, Roger Noble, Shaun Culkin, Stefan Reiss and it is hoped that full results will be available on this site shortly.
